Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Review, Full Phone Specifications, Best Price, and Conclusion

Xiaomi Redmi Y1

Introduction: –

Hello, Guys! Today I’m going to take a look at Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Review. This is the first phone from Xiaomi in India with Selfie Camera in focus and this phone sports the 16-megapixel camera. This mobile is priced at 8999 rupees or 140 dollars for the 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM variant. So, let’s start-

Design & Build: –

Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Design Review

The design of Redmi Y1 looks nothing different, nothing new here. It is very similar to what we have in the likes of Redmi Note 4 but it’s also made of plastic not metal though. The design of this device may not be a head-turner but it’s actually comfortable to hold and it easy to operate. It as a good grip in the hand thanks to the matte finished metal back.

It has the IR blaster put on the frontal top to control your appliances at home. At the bottom, we have the micro USB port and the speaker grille is a mono speaker. The speaker is loud and clear. There’s a fingerprint sensor at the rear panel and this is one of the fastest fingerprint sensors which I have seen in this price segment.

Display: –

The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 has got a 5.5-inch IPS LCD panel with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The display supports the 720p resolution with 236 Pixels per inch of pixel density. This is 2017 and the manufacturers must stop making 720p resolution display. But you know what thanks to the display this Redmi mobile has got a good battery life. The display is bright, the colours are natural and the viewing angles are good. The 720p display quality is crisp for both images and text consumption.

Camera: –

Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Camera Review

This feature is the highlight of this Redmi Mobile. It has a 16-megapixel Selfie Camera with a single LED flash. So, I’ve clicked a lot of selfies with this phone and I must say that this one of the best selfie mobiles in this price range.

This phone can click great selfies on a daylight but as the light drops noise level also peaks in. The camera UI specifically has very little to offer, it has plain beauty modes and nothing else. There is no background blur or there is no group selfie or things like that.

Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Image Quality

The main camera is a 13-megapixel camera with a f/2.2 lens. It has a phase detection autofocus lens, I must say that the camera is really impressive under both daylight conditions and also low-light conditions. I found the camera to be clicking sharp images, good details, the focusing is also fast and accurate. It has manual mode but I think it doesn’t have anything other than ISO and white balance in the manual mode.

It can also shoot 1080p video but forget OIS that is not even EIS in this mobile. Considering the price range and the target segment of this particular mobile, I must say that the camera is really impressive.

Performance & Memory: –

Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Processor Review

The Redmi Y1 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 clocked at Octa-Core 1.4GHz Processor with Adreno 505 graphics processing unit. This Redmi mobile comes in two RAM variants 3GB and 4GB RAM. It has 32GB or 64GB internal storage depending upon your RAM variant but the good thing is it supports a dedicated micro SD card slot. So, you have two SIM card and a dedicated microSD slot in this Redmi Mobile.

During my testing period, I install about 50+ applications in this Redmi Mobile and I also filled the memory to the brim. And the mobile showed no signs of lag, it was smooth running experience and I had no problem running any other applications, crossing the application, jumping between applications I had no problem.

During gameplay, I found out that this Redmi Mobile does not overheat. You had 30 minutes of continuous gaming the temperature roast be just about 6 to 7 degree Celsius. Also, the gameplay is smooth with no frame like graphics quality was also averaged not that bit but keep in mind that this is a mid-range mobile. So, in this price range, the performance is impressive. It has guide off for your VR application. It has FM radio but no NFC.

Software: –

Currently, out of the box, Redmi Y1 is running on Android 7.1.2 with MIUI 8.5 on top. This is one of the first batches of devices to receive MIUI 9 update. This Redmi mobile UI has no legs, it is a smooth and pleasant experience. I must say with lots of interesting features all backed up by the rich and powerful MIUI skin.

Battery: –

Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Battery Life

The Redmi Y1 has a 3080 milliamp-hours battery. The battery capacity may look small but if you look at the specifications it’s a 720p display and a Snapdragon 435 those 2-factors contribute to the good battery life of this Redmi Mobile. I get about 6 and half hours screen time but even intensive usage is like continuously for more than hours and watching movies, streaming content from YouTube and stuff like that. They may last for more than 5 hours for me on a regular usage on a normal days time. The mobile can last close to 2 days which is a good thing and also out of the box you get a 5 volt 2-ampere fast charger and this Redmi mobile can charge from 0 – 100% in less than two hours.

Conclusion: –

Overall, here are the alternatives for Redmi Y1, the 10.or G is priced at rupees 10,999 and it has Snapdragon 626 processor, 16-megapixel camera on the front. There’s another competitor with Snapdragon 435 which is the Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie model which priced at rupees 9,999 13-megapixel cameras on the front and back there. But still comparing both these phones I would prefer the Redmi Y1.

Not forgetting Xiaomi’s very one Redmi Note 4 which will provide a good competition to the Redmi Y1 because of the closeness in the pricing. Redmi Note 4 is 5-inch mobile while the Redmi Y1 is a 5.5-inch device but these mobiles are both specs similarly. Only a big advantage of Redmi Y1 is the front-facing camera but if you have a low budget and you’re looking for a selfie based mobile for a good battery and decent performance, you have to go with the Y1.
