Xiaomi Mi 6
Hello! Guys, Today, I’m going to take a look at Xiaomi Mi 6 Review. Each year manufacturers released their top-of-the-line smartphones that are called flagships but many people associated these phones with a premium price. The Chinese giant Xiaomi has released a lot of phones over the years and that Mi6 is their latest and greatest phone. That has bleeding-edge specifications, awesome design, and a lot more features. Let’s gets started-
On the rear we’ve got new dual camera setup, a two times optical zoom, 12-megapixel sensor and the other 12-megapixel sensor is more of a standard affair here with just optical image stabilization. But it happens to be 4-axis stabilization.
Battery life has also increased to 3350 milliamp-hour. However, we’ve lost the 3.5-millimetre headphone jack which is little sad to see.
We’ve got curved glass on the rear now that feels good in the hand. The bottom side of the Mi 6 has a loudspeaker, microphone and a USB Type-C port. On the left-hand side, we’ve just had the dual SIM tray so there’s no microSD card support in there just like the Mi 5 & Mi 5s. The buttons on the right side have a good feel to them they’re made out of metal and they change the front-facing camera, it is now an 8-megapixel. On the top, there’s an IR transmitter, a secondary microphone which is used for noise cancellation and also the secondary mic in the video.
You have nicely backlit capacitive keys and the fingerprint scanner that is actually one of the fastest and most accurate scanners that you can find on any phone.
The same with steel frame is almost seamless with a curved glass back panel which actually does a decent job with all the fingerprints and smudges in comparison the phone does not attract fingerprints so quickly like the Samsung Galaxy S8. Also, the buttons are easy to reach it they have great tactile feedback. It is great that we have some extra features like the IR blaster that allows you to control devices like TVs.
Fingerprint Sensor: –
The fingerprint reader on the Xiaomi Mi 6 is front-facing ultra-sonic and it works every single time very quick. No need to wake the phone first just simply place you scan finger on there, it unlocks instantly.
Dust & Splash Resistance: –
It’s worth mentioning the Xiaomi Mi6 is now splash-proof even though the official certification number is not yet confirmed. Keep in mind the splash proof phones are not the same as water-resistant smartphones. In other words, you can not submerge the Xiaomi Mi6 underwater.
It is really decent 1080p IPS LCD display one of the best that you’ll find for 1080p to me. It looks just sharp as sharp as a 1440p screen because it does have 428 pixels per inch being 5.15-inches. Maximum brightness tops out at 540 LUX which is good enough for viewing it in direct sunlight. But it is not bright as Samsung Galaxy S8.
Rear Camera: –
When it comes to optics, one of the key selling point of the Mi6 the Dual Camera setup that consists of a 12-megapixel shooter with wide angle lens on another 12-megapixel sensor with a telephoto lens that gives you two times zoom and ability to take beautiful portrait photos. The main camera has a bright F/1.8 aperture lens for access optical image stabilization and Dual tone and Dual-LED flash.
We have a familiar Xiaomi camera app that allows you to take pictures very fast. You can also play with some basic shooting modes in settings for examples we can adjust some image properties using the manual mode or shoot Slo-Mo videos at 720p. There is also 2 times lossless zoom mode that allows you to utilize that secondary camera sensor. The results are pretty good definitely a lot better than using a digital zoom.
The portrait mode takes good looking pictures with that Bokeh effect. But sometimes may get a picture with a little bit unnatural looking blurred background. When it comes to the image quality using the auto mode Mi 6 can take great pictures in good lighting. There is plenty of detail, the colours look nice and the nice reduction is pretty good. however, I found that the dynamic range adjustment is a bit worse than on the top gear phones.
The indoor and macro shots are great too. Again there is a lot of detail and you get that nice bokeh effect. The low-light camera performance is decent but it’s far from the top-shelf flagship great quality.
The 4k video quality is great. The footage is detailed and the continuous autofocus features work well. Also, the colours look nice too but they seem to be slightly oversaturated. In general, this is probably the best video quality from any Xiaomi phone. The 1080p video looks good too obviously there is less detail but the optical image stabilization seems to be a better job than in a 4k video mode.
Front Camera: –
The selfies look great is there is a lot of detail and other colours are accurate. However, the quality decreases quite dramatically in lower lid situations. The1080p selfie video looks quite good. There is a good amount of detail but the footage is not as good as the one shot with a Samsung Galaxy S8. Finally, the sound recording quality is decent but so not quite the mainstream flagship quality.
Performance & Memory: –
The Xiaomi Mi 6 powered by the Qualcomm Octa-Core Snapdragon 835 that it has a maximum turbo of 2.45 gigahertz. It’s also coupled with six gigabytes of RAM and UFS 2.1 storage meaning it gets really good scores. So, according to the AnTuTu score, it gets really high 182126 very decent result there.
Now we’ve the biggest con of the phone and that is the ROM itself is just not stable while the performance of it is quick and snappy. Most of the time, certain applications just don’t want to work sometimes. When you try to run CPU Z, it just freezes then for a second and I’ve seen, it causes the whole phone to reboot completely unacceptable.
The Gaming performance is almost perfect, as you’d expect from an Adreno 540 GPU very fluid, nice and smooth, all the 3D games run fine on the very highest graphics settings and before does not have any overheating issues. However, I noticed that there were a few skipped frames on the asphalt 8 when I played on the highest graphics. I believe that this is duty an early software build and don’t really need to worry about that since Xiaomi releases software updates very often.
User Interface: –
6 Chip with MIUI 8 which is built on top of Android 7.1 Nougat version. My device has the MIUI global ROM 8.2 that has Google services pre-installed on all the blows removed. I love how fast the phone is on the daily basis even after installing quite a few apps. So far the phone has been working absolutely fine and I didn’t have any issues. As usual, there are plenty of customization options. You can adjust display settings choose from a variety of themes or wallpaper, customize the capacitive buttons, use some gesture control and so on.
When it comes to connectivity, the Wireless AC really impress me, very good range, I’m able to get really good speeds still over the other side of the studio here and maxing out them. Maximum speeds that I can basically get out of my fibre optic line which is 300 Mbps unable to achieve that. Only top wireless chipsets can do that. The 3G speeds nothing amazing they’re fine, 4G speeds as well as really good. No problems with the signal strength so connectivity very good, we also have Bluetooth v5.0 on there. The GPS is very accurate.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 has two loudspeakers on it so it’s got one down the bottom side and the other one is an earpiece. The speakers are loud and the quality of it has definitely improved over the previous model because they have got an additional speaker. There’s a little hint of bass in there and compared to the Samsung Galaxy S8, I think the S8 sounds slightly better than the Xiaomi Mi 6. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack on this phone. The sound quality via the USB type-C part using the supplied adapter is great, no distortions, great volume output, and balanced sound.
The Xiaomi Mi6 shifts with a 3350 mAh battery that performs great.I use my phone very intensively for taking a lot of pictures and shooting a lot of 4k video running benchmarks, installing a lot of apps and so on and I still managed to get over 5 hours of screen on time. If you used the device just for basic stuff, you should be able to get 6-7 hours screen on time. Finally the Mi6 ships with a fast charger. It takes about the 1 hour 30 minutes to fully charge the phone.
Overall, The Xiaomi Mi 6 is the best phone yet I believe, once they can fix that firmware. It really is mud at the moment by the unstable firmware. It’s buggy, it can lock up the whole phone, it could reset o you completely for no reason launching certain applications like CPU Z.
Apart from that the build quality is excellent, it’s premium their best. Yet splash resistant. You’ve got very decent battery life on here for Snapdragon 835, very good performance, gaming performance is good, GPS is brilliant, very fast wireless AC, really good 4G.
We are missing the 3.5mm headphone jack but we do get the second speaker on there so the loudspeaker performance has improved. Now, the camera performance some surprises here that the still images in good light, take a very decent image. Both of the camera performance is great. But the video quality still is a little bit of letdown.
At the end of the discussion, the Xiaomi Mi6 has a few shortcomings like most of the phones but given the fact that it offers. So many flagship quality for a much lower price, it is definitely one of the best smartphones on the market.
