Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S
Hello, Friends! Today I’m going to take a look at the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S Review. So, here we have the Mi Mix 2S which is their revised model with a faster chipset in here. So, they’ve upgraded it from the Snapdragon 835 to the 845 a high-speed chip, the latest and greatest from Qualcomm. They’ve also changed the camera on it, so the cameras on the Mi Mix 2S were quite disappointing. So, let’s start in detailing-
We’ve got ugly camera bump, and it’s not that great looking. It’s copying the way the cameras are on the latest iPhone. And you’ll notice the design it’s pretty much the same unless you break out a roll of air and you check the dimensions of it. There’s a slight difference but excellent build on this we’ve got ceramic on the back of it, and it’s more scratch resistant than any other glass coating that you’ll find. It’s a little bit slippery, but you also do get a perfect case in the box. The subtle curved edges look good in the hand, and I do like the fact that they’ve got the slim bezels on the front.
The display is 2160 by 1080, so that’s an 18 by 9 aspects ratio, good colours, deep blacks and the tiny little bit is shattering around the edge otherwise for an IPS display it’s quite good, maximum brightness is 500 Lux which is good. The sunlight legibility is average it’s not the best I find that the Samsung AMOLED panels tend to hold up a lot better in some sunlight.
Overall, great screen and you’ll notice too that down, the bottom has just got the one loudspeaker, so they haven’t added the secondary speaker on the side but it just like an MI Mix 2 that the earpiece also incorporates a loudspeaker there. The loudness is okay, but it lacks to meet quality this is one of my minor complaints. So, the audio output you’re going to have to use the adapter because there is no 3.5mm headphone jack.
Now, you’ll also notice too at the top there’s no IR transmitter, we’ve got a secondary microphone, and you’ll find antenna lines there.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S has Dual Rear camera setup, primary 12-Megapixel, f/1.8 aperture lens camera and secondary 12-megapixel, f/2.4 aperture lens with Dual LED dual-tone Flash. The front camera has a 5-megapixel with f/2.0 aperture lens.
When it comes to the Camera performance, so we’ve got a couple of new features here with the Camera or one of them as the Camera AI and this is a bit of a gimmick to me.
The front-facing camera as well is not that great. It oversaturates a lot, we get reduced dynamic range, and you often lose a lot of details in the background. Now, we’ll support portrait mode the front facing camera as well.
The rear camera has the portrait mode, it looks good, but when you’re getting close, you will see the image quality is excellent. It takes a remarkable photo, and the low-light performance is well too. This is probably one of the best I’ve seen from a mobile phone from Xiaomi.
However, the camera’s not all 100% brilliant when we move over to the video now, and it does have an electronic image stabilisation option. The video quality is pretty good, not bad, one thing that is lacking in one area is the audio quality to me is not as good as it should be neither is the stability it’s not as good as even the Redmi Note 5. Now, that’s Xiaomi’s budget phone, but at least the focus is quite good and no more focus hunting issues.
Software & Performance: –
Now, the operating system it’s running Android 8.0 is hoping for Android 8.1 but hopefully, that’s going to be coming soon in an update MIUI 9.5. So, the MIUI 9.5 adds a few new features on there. One of the most important ones would probably be the full-screen gestures so you can use gestures. So, if you swipe up to the middle and hold then, you go into your recent apps, if you swipe straight up goes back to home, and if you swipe from the left that takes you back once you get used to it, it’s quite good.
So, when we also look at the operating system performance, it’s terrific. I have not noticed any light lag, stutters and no bugs in the operating system. The real world performance the internal storage is high-speed UFS 2.1 spec, good wireless speeds as well can get close to 600 megabits per second out of this well, that’s 2×2 antenna setup. The GPS performance I wanted to point this one out because it is excellent in fact the best I’ve seen. The 4G speeds I noticed to be decent no complaints with that at all, a good signal, and the call quality has a few little complaints the microphone to me sound a little bit muffled.
Processor & Memory: –
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 which clocked at Octa-Core up 2.8GHz processor with 6 gigabytes or 8 gigabytes of RAM and 64/128/256 gigabytes of internal storage. There’s no microSD card slot for expandable memory.
The Gaming performance it’s going to play all the latest titles out there. So I tested out PUBG, World of Tanks and Shadow Fighter 3 and it’s also super smooth, everything’s running at maximum speeds here.
Biometrics & Security: –
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S does have fingerprint unlocking just like the Mi Mix and MI Mix 2, and it’s really quick this is under a second. Now it also has the face unlocking; the face unlocking is not as secure it tends to work most of the time I’d say about 8 out of 10.
Moving on now to the battery, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S ships with 3400 milliamp-hours battery and it came out a lot better than I thought. I was expecting may be about 7 to 8 hours but as actually close to 9 hours with my battery test. So, what I did was set the brightness to 200 nits and continue just to use it that was mostly gaming, and I did use a bit of Chrome, YouTube things like that, I kept it connected up to wireless on the whole time.
I used a little bit of data perhaps only about 20% of the test so keep that in mind there so continual use almost 9 hours. It takes 1 hour and 39 minutes to charge it from 0 to 100% with the supplied cable. Also, it does have wireless charging, and this is the first time that Xiaomi has used it. If you’re going to be using a 7.5-watt wireless charger, you’re looking at almost 3 hours to charge the phone completely.
So, overall the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is a great smartphone. I’d really love it top performance, excellent build quality we got the ceramic on it, they have improved the camera but if you own MI Mix 2 I wouldn’t be upgrading to this unless you must have wireless charging and you really want to have a much better camera well, keeping that original Mi Mix 2 design. I do really like this phone; there are just those areas of concern, so the call quality, the audio in video recording, the stability of video and colours in the video are not great. Now, these are all things they can fix with the software, so hopefully, Xiaomi is going to come out with an update. Correct all of that, and this will be an entirely brilliant phone.
