Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus
Hello! Guys, Today I’m going to take a look at Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 plus Review. I’ll start off by saying this I’ve used both the 5.8-inch Galaxy S8 and the 6.2-inch Galaxy S8 Plus. In this review, we’re going to focus on both phone but especially we’ll talk about the S8 Plus because there’s really not that much difference between them. S8 has a slightly bigger battery about 15% and it’s got that bigger screen which gives it a wider footprint but this phone is a really kind of narrow and very small phone for a 6.2-inch display. So let’s get start-
Display & Design: –
Now you may have heard of Samsung’s infinity display this beautiful, tall 18.5 by 9 aspect ratio AMOLED display. This is by far the best screen on the market right now it’s sharp, beautiful and bright in sunlight. It has a high-end display, a Super AMOLED display that comes in Quad HD resolution and has a bunch of different features and the always-on display. It even punches colors harder than before mostly because this is one of the first display to be HD already. When you go into video application like YouTube, you will notice that this display gets brighter and it’s colored get more saturated.
Samsung has stretched the display out as much as it possibly could on these bodies. So that they even did away with the tactile Home Button and the fingerprint sensor moved to the back. This is one of the biggest changes So in order to accommodate that change Samsung had to make Home Button feel like a home button. That’s why there’s an actual haptic engine inside the home button. When you tap on it, you feel it like a physical button but even better you turn off the screen you can press it and it turns on the screen more than that you can activate the biometric facial recognition or Iris scanner in one fell swoop. So phone have the curved edge display and it still has those edge display features.
There’s a USB type-c port on the bottom that’s new from the Galaxy S7 and if they beat on the Note 7. There’s still IP68 water and dust resistant which is great. There’s wireless charging as it has been for the last couple of years.
Home Button: –
Let’s go back to the Home Button so there’s this Haptic engine underneath that gives you pressure sensitive feedback but that also means that there are now on-screen back and multitasking buttons.
There are two new biometric authentication method Face recognition and Iris scanning. Iris Scanning comes from the note 7. Face recognition is as fast as it is. The Iris scanner is now faster, more reliable and better in low light. And it has also the fingerprint sensor but it is located next to the main camera.
Take a look on camera, a 12-megapixel shooter with f/1.7 aperture and with the big focus pixels returns on the main shooter allowing for very fast autofocus while the front facing camera has been bumped up to 8-megapixel with also F/1.7 aperture and has what is called smart autofocus system. Autofocus is not something you usually see on front-facing camera so it’s nice to find it here. That said the selfies do benefit from higher megapixel counts and it does a pretty good job in most lighting situation. In low-light, the pictures obviously lose their sharpness as the shutter speed requires a little bit more time to properly expose the picture.
So while there might be video stabilization on the front facing camera which is not that big of a surprise. The one thing that I do love about the front-facing camera on the S8 is that it can record 2k resolution video. The main camera which doesn’t change from the last generation. the interface is about the same as before prioritizing swaps and certain gestures to keep shooting as easy and one-handed as possible. You can record 1080p resolution video at 60 frames per second. So that’s one of the main additions.
Samsung touch that there is a multi-frame processing involved here where the camera takes multiple shots of the same image and puts them all together to get the most detail and color out of the scene. So the quality and the experience are largely similar to the Note 7 and S7 providing enjoyable photos and video in all but the darkest of conditions focusing is really speedy and there’s always the selective focus mode if you want an option that has a little bit more flexibility.
Processor & Memory:-
The latest Samsung flagship specifications, the latest 10nm EXYNOS 8895 chipset or the Snapdragon 835 power all that the Galaxy S8 can do backed by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. That can be bolstered with a microSD card. This is running Android 7.0 Nougat.
In North America, It has a Snapdragon 835 platform with 4G gigs of RAM and 64 gigs of standard storage. There is a 6 gigs version out there somewhere and it may come to North America and India but don’t hold out much hope. The Snapdragon 835 is really fast. It’s about 20% faster in most ways than the 821 on phones like the OnePlus 3t, Google Pixel, and the LG G6.
Gaming : –
It’s really much faster in games and that’s where you’re going to notice a difference. The performance is outstanding especially when you enable performance mode which is another tweak. That allows you to set the screen resolution to its maximum on the Galaxy S8 and gives the Gaming extra of that it needs.
Samsung software PSD resists on ts major announcement in addition to the infinity display is Bixby. It’s AI-powered personal assistance at its core Bixby is about helping you do things better, helping give you context when you didn’t know you needed it. Right Now Bixby is only half done that’s why I can’t really review it until later this year.
Let’s talk about what you can do right now, Bixby is activated with a physical button on the left side of the Galaxy S8 and you press that to launch Bixby home. Which is a feed of things that the phone thinks you need right now your schedule, reminders, any news update from Flipboard things like that? The rest of it is interspersed around the phone, you have the Bixby’s vision which is a part of the camera app you use it to identify things like a Wine bottle. You can find a great bottle of Wine if you’re out of the store or you can get similar photos for the things that you’re taking.
The loudspeaker which is decent at best. Audio through the headphone jack is actually quite good. Considering that there’s no 3rd party deck or even an amp in here and there are many different options that Samsung puts in. So you can cater the sound to adjust your liking.
Let’s talk battery life, The S8 and S8 plus have 3000 and 3500 mAh units respectively and fast charging are all available fro topping the batteries up. I was actually able to get 5 hours of screen on time during 18 hours workdays on a few occasions. However most of the time I was actually at 3 and a half to 4 hours of screen on time for the same amount of work.
The Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus the best Android phones you can buy today. Whether you want the smaller Galaxy S8 or the larger Galaxy S8 Plus you can’t go wrong. this is a fast, beautiful and reliable phone with excellent battery life and really great cameras.
