Huawei Mate 10 Lite
Hello, Guys! Today I’m going to do a full review of Huawei Mate 10 Lite. You know the Huawei release the Huawei Mate 10 and the Mate 10 Pro which are pretty good smartphones. I made In-Depth reviews of them and make sure to check those reviews out. But Huawei also releases the Huawei Mate 10 Lite and as the name implies it should be a very similar smartphone but it’s actually a lot different but at the same time it’s a lot cheaper. So, let’s start-
Design & Build: –
The Huawei Mate 10 Lite costs about 465 dollars depending on the region also the phone may carry a different model name. it is also known as Huawei Nova 2i in Malaysia, Huawei Maimang 6 in China or Huawei Honor 9i In India. Both Huawei Mate 10 and mate 10 Pro our amazing smartphones. I still prefer a sturdy all-metal design of the Mate 10 Lite it means that the phone does not attract Fingerprints and smudges that quickly and the backplate will not shatter after a single drop.
As usual a few features as quickly as possible, the fingerprint scanner is very fast and accurate and there is a headset jack that provides you with a decent sound quality. Also, the buttons are really nice and there is a Hybrid Dual SIM card slot. However, the phone still uses a micro USB port, not the USB type-C.
It has a 5.9-inch sharp and vibrant 1080p LCD display that has 18:9 aspect ratio and tiny bezels on each side. The phone is comfortable to hold but you’ll still need to use both hands to reach the upper portion of the display.
Another key element is the camera, 4 cameras to be precise they receive dual camera setup that consists of 16-megapixels and 2-megapixels shooter on the rear. There is another camera system for selfie uses 13-megapixel and 2-megapixels sensors and a front firing LED soft flash. The selfie flash is so powerful that illuminates the entire phone and makes it look really cool in low-light.
At the bottom, a single loudspeaker which is pretty nice for the price of the device but obviously it’s a lot worse than the Huawei Mate 10 stereo speakers. The speaker uses Huawei Histone sound for video and games that does enhance the sound quality a little bit.
When it comes to the cameras, you have a standard Huawei app that takes images very fast. There are quite a few shooting modes to choose from but I mostly use the Pro Mode that lets you adjust a few pictures settings.
The portrait mode utilizes a secondary camera sensor to take images with that shallow depth of field effect. The photos take using that mode look great in general. The background is nicely blurred but as always you may see a few artefacts here and there in a few shots.
I’ve tested the camera on a cloudy day meaning that the lighting conditions were pretty bad. So, the Huawei Mate 10 Lite produced good-looking pictures considering the price of the Phone. The only downsides would be that the dynamic range adjustment is not always accurate and some of the pictures are overexposed.
The low light images are really good considering this smartphone costs just about 465 dollars but obviously, they are a lot crazier than the daylight pictures.
Selfies look great using Auto Mode because of the powerful 16-megapixel sensor. If you use a portrait mode you can utilize the secondary camera sensor to take one of the best in class. Selfies with a shallow depth of field or bokeh effect. The front-facing LED soft flash lets you take usable selfies in pitch dark situations.
The 1080p is the maximum resolution for this Huawei phone can shoot videos. The footage looks great overall but it is slightly overexposed. Obviously, it would have been nice to have a 4K video for more detail.
1080p selfie video is again pretty good and the overall sound recording quality is decent.
Performance & Memory: –
On the contrary to the Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro that have AI enabled processors. The Huawei Mate 10 Lite uses a lower and yet still quite a powerful HiSilicon Kirin 659 chipset. It is also coupled with 4GB of RAM and a 64GB of expandable storage. If you plan to play 3D games you would probably need to reduce the graphics settings manually as there are quite a lot of skip frames and lag on the highest visual settings. If you do that the overall gaming performance is pretty fine and the phone does not overheat.
Both the Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro ship with Android 8.0 out of the box but the Huawei Mate 10 Lite has an older Android 7 with an EMUI 5.1 skinned built on top of it. Honestly, I don’t see a huge difference as the UI looks almost the same. A little bit cartoonish icons sit on the home screens but you can always enable an app drawer feature which I personally prefer. As usual to Huawei, we have the same swipes menu gestures, quite a few smart controls and so on. There are also quite a few features customization options and all tweaks to customize the phone. I mostly use the fingerprint gestures that work just fine. Most importantly, the Mate 10 Lite is a fast phone overall even after installing a lot of applications.
As far as connectivity goes the Huawei Phone performs well. I didn’t have any issues with a call quality, signal reception and other connectivity options. There is no gyroscope sensor its mean that the phone is not compatible with VR headsets.
The Huawei Mate 10 Lite has a 3340 milliamp-hours battery performs really well considering the size of the display. I was able to achieve over 7 hours of screen on time even though the symmetric can be subjective that translates to a full day or two days of battery life depending on the how you use the phone. Unfortunately, the Huawei phone does not ship with a fast charger that means that it will take about two hours to fully charge the device.
Overall, I love the design and display also the phone has really capable cameras especially that front firing camera setup that has two sensors also LED flash for night photography. So, if you are interested in selfies this phone may be for you. There are also quite a few features in the user interface, the battery life is pretty good and the Huawei phone just gets the basics right for example the fingerprint scanner is really fast and accurate. The call quality, signal reception connectivity options like GPS all the work fine. Finally, the phone is quite fast overall even after installing quite a few apps.
Obviously, you should consider a few cons, so first of all the phone still uses that micro USB port not the USB type-C and even though the phone is fast overall the processor is not capable of handling the latest 3D games on the very highest graphics settings but if you play them on medium graphics you should be fine. And the phone ships with Android 7 out of the box, not android. There is no 4K video recording, no gyroscope sensor and there is no fast charger. So, the Huawei Mate 10 Lite is a pretty good phone despite a few shortcomings but as always make sure to consider all the pros and cons.
