Huawei Honor 9
Hello, Guys! Today, I’m going to take a look at Huawei Honor 9 review. The Honor 8 was one of my favorite smartphones last year. For $460 or your original equivalent, you got an awesome package filled with a great design, performance, and camera. How the new Honor 9 holds up against I’ll tell you here-
On the top of the Honor 9, you have an infrared blaster for remote controlling compatible devices and a noise canceling microphone. On the right, the power, and volume buttons. On the left, the SIM card slot for dual SIM or a simplest microSD card. On the bottom, you have an Audio jack, a USB-c port, and the speakers bundles of the microphone.
The frame is made of aluminum. On the top front is the 8-megapixel front-facing camera, proximity sensor and the front speaker with a notification LED inside. In the center, we have a 5.15-inche display and downside the fingerprint sensor which moves to the front and still super fast. Next to it are two customizable soft keys which you can also turn off.
The back which is a mix of glass and aluminum is even shinier than before and the light effect on it looks awesome. Also on the back is a Dual camera with a dual LED flash and a laser autofocus.
It has LTPS IPS LCD full HD display with 1080 x 1920p resolution. The full HD display is great. The colors are nice of a DCI P3 color gamut which you can also find on newer Apple display with 429 PPI. It’s super sharp display. The brightness is around 450-nits but could have been brighter. A night mode to protect your eyes is also available.
The 20 + 12-megapixel dual camera with a monochrome and color sensor with F/2.2 is really good it comes with a Bokeh mode where you can also take a picture and set the focus afterward. Other than that you can take great raw pictures with the pro mode. Colors are great and very natural by the picture is sharp.
Performance during low-light is also surprisingly good. It’s not the greatest but it’s a very good improvement compared to the Honor 8, especially pairs of the bokeh mode. Your pictures also get stabilized through electronic image stabilization, works great for pictures but not so great for videos. That the hyper zoom you have the option for lossless which works quite well.
The video camera, unfortunately, is not that good even if it supports 4K videos now. Full HD still looks more or less like HD. The front video camera performs much better though.
The 8-megapixel front camera with F/2.0 aperture is nicely improved. Here, you can also use portrait mode and have a lot of beauty options which can make you stick out from others. The low-light performance is greater than expected especially the display flash on.
When it comes to performance, inside we have 4 gigs of RAM still much more than enough and 64 gigs eMMC 5.1 extendable internal storage with the Kirin 960. It is equipped with the latest Huawei CPU which doesn’t only improve the performance but also has the much better graphics chip than the Kirin 955 up to 180% more GPU performance is what you get.
It’s also surprising that the system runs super smooth. Here, as it does with every Huawei or Honor smartphone. But also multitasking and gaming performance is great especially for Full HD it’s more than enough.
The operating system is a motion EMUI 5.1 based on Android 7.0 and it is a nice mix of Android and iOS. It is very user-friendly and customizable and also comes with many additional features like app cloning, a good phone manager. I personally really like it.
The speakers are better than average but the more interesting is that the new sound chip and the sound profile developed with monster sounds lead to a great headphone sound. You have to activate Huawei Histen 3D audio technology in the sound settings to experience this. Even sound recordings are really good.
With the 3200 mAh battery, the screen on time is over average with around 5.5 hours. For heavy users, it should definitely last up to a day and to an average user between one and two days.
The Honor 9 comes in three colors gray, blue and black. It costs around 480 dollars or 25,000 rupees. Overall, it’s a really nice update and again a great package for its price. Performance is great, the design is not new but still beautiful and the camera is nice. If you already own an Honor 8, you don’t really need to upgrade but if you are looking for a new phone the Honor 9 maybe the best value for its best price.
