Honor 9 Lite Vs Xiaomi Mi A1
Hello, Folks! Today I’m going to do a full specifications comparison between the Honor 9 Lite Vs Xiaomi Mi A1. The Honor 9 Lite recently launched in the budget segment has some great features and has a very good design as well but there are many phones available in its price segment right now like the Honor 7X and the Xiaomi Mi A1. While the Honor 9 Lite is a newer generation smartphone compared to the Honor 7X, it is also much more refined both in terms of design and software so, I will definitely recommend you buy the 9 Lite over the 7X. But it is also comparable to the Xiaomi Mi A1 that is what we’re going to take a look in this comparison. So, let’s start-
Design wise, both phones are different in terms of the design and build quality. The Xiaomi Mi A1 is built on the conventional likes with a 16 by 9 aspect ratio display. A solid metal unibody design and soft keys given at the bottom on Honor 9 Lite, On the other hand, is a more compact phone and uses an 18 by 9 aspect ratio display with thin bezels. The 9 Lite packs more screen area in a smaller form factor and also feels more premium to touch and feel and that is the best part about the Honor phone.
The Honor 9 Lite looks and feels like a next-generation smartphone and doesn’t demand a high price for that but there are few small differences in the design of these two phones. The Mi A1 touchscreen is slightly more smooth probably because it has a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on the display and the Honor 9 Lite does not. Next, the Mi A1 has a Type-C USB port and supports fast charging which the Honor 9 Lite misses out on and finally, the Mi A1 has an aluminium build. While the Honor phone is probably not made out of metal though both phones are equally strong and don’t bend when you apply force. In fact, the Honor 9 Lite is slightly more solid but we don’t have a confirmation from Honor yet if the 9 Lite is made out of metal.
Also, both smartphones have dual microphones, single speaker, headphone jack and Hybrid SIM card slot. The Honor 9 Lite has on-screen navigation keys while they’re put on the thick bottom bezel on the Mi A1, this allows the Honor phone to have a bigger display but it is slightly bigger to be exact it is 0.2 inches or only 3.6% bigger than that on the Mi A1.
Biometrics & Sound: –
Now, talking about fingerprint scanner, we felt on Honor 9 Lite has an advantage in terms of the fingerprint scanner performance. It’s fast, extremely responsive and the device in pretty cube type.
Now, the speaker performance is one area where the Xiaomi Mi A1 has an edge because it’s an inbuilt amplifier which produces some really good musical abilities on the Mi A1. The Honor 9 Lite is not far behind it definitely is a decent performer but the sound quality is not as good as the Xiaomi Mi A1.
Here, we have two different aspect ratios one we have 18 by 9 aspect ratio with 5.65-inch Full HD resolution display on the Honor 9 Lite. While the 5.5-inch Full HD resolution with 16 by 9 aspect ratio display on the Xiaomi Mi A1. The display quality looks quite good on both the smartphones so in terms of the display performance we feel both these devices does a quite good job. The viewing angles are pretty good and the touch response is also pretty smooth. We have an additional protection offered on the display on the Xiaomi Mi A1 while there is nothing offered on the Honor 9 Lite.
So, here is very tough to choose one because The Honor 9 Lite has an 18 by 9 aspect ratio display advantage, it has a larger footprint but the Xiaomi Mi A1 is protected by the Gorilla Glass. Both the displays are quite good in terms of the colour reproduction and the usability aspect. Honor 9 Lite screen in comparison has more saturated colours and looks good even indoors you will need to blast the brightness to full to get a nice looking display.
Both the devices have dual camera setup 13and 2-megapixel with LED flash on the Honor 9 Lite while we have a dual 12-megapixel camera with dual LED flash and on the front panel, we have a dual camera on the Honor 9 Lite while it’s a single 5-megapixel camera on the Xiaomi MI A1.
In terms of camera performance, we felt both these devices have pretty good performance in terms of the camera experience. We feel the Xiaomi Mi A1 has a slight edge in terms of the rear camera performance where the low-light performance was better than the Honor 9 Lite.
In good light, the 9 Lite captures better details and sharp object outlines and that is the case in low-light as well. Though you would see both phones images have a high amount of noise but with more details on its images Honor 9 Lite manages cleaner shots in low light. But cleaner doesn’t mean correct. The colour captures by 9 Lite is very different from the actual scene. The daylight captures are not much different but still, there is an advantage for the Mi A1.
The selfie camera is definitely better of the Honor 9 Lite because the images quality is excellent. The rear camera we would say that Mi A1 has a slight edge while the front camera of the Honor 9 Lite wins by a huge margin.
Processor, Memory & Performance: –
Both the devices have quite good performance. We have HiSilicon Kirin 659 Octa-Core chipset coupled with either 3 gigabytes of RAM or 4 gigabytes of RAM variants on the Honor 9 Lite. And we have the Snapdragon 625 Octa-Core chipset with 4 gigabytes RAM on the Xiaomi Mi A1.
So, in terms of the app performance, both these devices are quite good but we feel the overall app performance and the multitasking was better on the Xiaomi Mi A1. But having said that Honor 9 Lite is not far behind, it does perform pretty well in this price segment.
Now, the gaming experience is one area where the Xiaomi Mi A1 has a clear edge because the gaming performance of the Snapdragon 625 was really good while on the Honor 9 Lite with the Kirin 659 was a bit laggy nature. So, other than that both these devices have dual SIM card 4G LTE and VoLTE support and we get 32 or 64 gigabytes of internal storage variants on the Honor 9 Lite. Well, we have 64 gigabytes of internal storage variant on the Xiaomi Mi A1.
Talking about the raw scores, we ran a few benchmarks on both the phones and found that the Honor 9 Lite slightly outpaces the Mi A1 in the single-core test.
The Mi A1 is Xiaomi’s first Stock Android phone and it is popular for that very reason. It has been updated to Android Oreo and the Honor 9 Lite also runs on Android Oreo but there is a world of difference between the two phones when it comes to the User experience. The Stock Android interface is cleaner, more streamlined, easy to use and organized. You get a seamless experience and things are arranged in an orderly fashion which makes it a delightful experience to use the Mi A1. In comparison the EMUI on Honor 9 Lite is filled with third-party apps have small icons, toggles keyboard keys and the menu is confusingly arranged. The display brightness bar is a classic example of it. It is so easy to find it and use on the Stock Android while not so much on the EMUI.
Fortunately, though the Honor 9 Lite is not a slow phone and matches the Xiaomi Mi A1’s speed when it comes to opening apps or multitasking, most apps take some time to load and close the apps on both the phones, in fact, some apps loaded faster on the Honor 9 Lite. There were instances when some apps would crash on the Honor Phones but otherwise, everything goes smoothly on it.
Both the smartphones have 3000 milliamp-hours battery and here we feel the Honor 9 Lite surprise us with the slightly better battery performance than the Mi A1. So, the Xiaomi Mi A1 could get us around 5 and half hours to 6 hours screen on time that’s a maximum but we got 7 hours of screen on time on the Honor 9 Lite. So, we there is a slight edge for the Honor 9 Lite in terms of the battery performance.
The Honor 9 Lite price starts at 10,999 rupees or $210 for the 3 gigabytes of RAM and 32 gigabytes of internal storage and the Xiaomi Mi A1 price starts at 13,999 rupees or $285 for the 4 gigabytes of RAM and 64 gigabytes of storage.
The Honor 9 Lite has really great premium finishing build quality, superior 18 by 9 aspect ratio display, great battery life, latest Android Oreo version, and the customization software with good performance. But the only downside for the 9 Lite is the gaming performance which we feel, it was kind of laggy nature.
On the other hand, the Xiaomi Mi A1 has Stock android, quite good display as well but it does not have the 18 by 9 aspect ratio, good performance and excellent gaming experience, and the cameras are also quite good except for the selfie experience which was not that great.
So, summing up all these aspects, the Xiaomi Mi A1 also has an advantage that you will be getting the next version of Android as well. So, I word we feel if you are looking for this latest software version it should be the Mi A1, you should be looking at. But if you are looking at the good order on the package we feel the Honor 9 Lite has an edge in terms of the overall experience.
