Huawei Honor 9 Lite
Hello, Folks! Today I’m going to do a full specifications review and discuss the Honor 9 Lite Price. It’s time to conclude the whether the 9 Lite is the best budget device in the market or you should wait for another upcoming budget phone. The Honor 9 Lite is Quad-Camera loaded device with AI capabilities, these all features are provided in this device at a very cheaper rate but today we are going to review every segment of this device. So, let’s start-
The Design of the Honor 9 Lite is pretty amazing with front and rear glass design. The front of the phone carries a 5.65-inch Full HD display with 18 by 9 aspect ratio. The 9 Lite’s body size is equivalent to a 5.2-inch smartphone. It also helps to get a good grip on this device. If you will handle this device carefully you will never require a case.
The Honor claims that the Honor 9 Lite is the most durable phone in its price segment, Honor also claims that this phone can survive about a day in the refrigerator also. The phone has a double-sided 2.5D glass design compared to the Honor 8 Lite. This phone has more dazzling mirror effect at the rear panel which looks attractive and awesome. The blue and silver colours look better on this device.
The Honor 9 Lite comes with a rounded appearance. The phone body weight is relatively light so you can get a good grip if you hold this device for a long time you will not feel tired. The 9 Lite has no camera bump at the back so a back case is not necessary. Overall, you will get a compact design, a lightweight body, a better grip for holding, double-sided 2.5D glass and the most unique the 3.5mm Headphone jack. There is no IR blaster in this device and I don’t think so it is necessary.
When it comes to screen, the Honor 9 Lite has no exception aside from the sleek design the 5.65-inch Full HD Plus IPS LCD display is the star of the show. It is bright, punchy and has great viewing angles. The 18 by 9 aspect ratio screen is great for gaming and multimedia consumption and Honor’s software stack allows you to stretch applications and YouTube videos which do not natively support this aspect ratio and which is quite nifty. All in all, the display is more than adequate for the price segment, the Honor 9 Lite is placed in.
The sound quality of the Honor 9 Lite is overall good. It is not so loud but it is good to watch the videos. Front speaker is also fine with no metallic sound effect.
The Honor 9 Lite has a Dual Camera setups on both the front and back. In both front and back, the smartphone sports a 13-megapixel primary camera with a 2-megapixel secondary camera. The rear camera offers PDAF autofocus apart from LED flash. Just like the Honor 9i, it has also the blurring adjustment you adjust the background blurring by your own, you can also select the area to focus or to blur.
The daylight captures, it comes with quite good or detailing and colours look quite acceptable although it’s not as good as Honor 7X in terms of the overall colour reproduction it definitely feels quite good in this price segment and the dual camera does work pretty well. The sharpness levels are quite acceptable but we feel it could have been a tad better especially when the Honor 7X produces slightly better but remember the Honor 7X has a 16-megapixel camera.
Closeup images, here we feel the closeup images the colours a bit more vivid than the landscaper images and times it feels a bit saturated but overall, we feel it does have some good abilities in terms of the closeup images. Also, the Honor 9 Lite has wide aperture mode.
Portrait images, this one is one of the good aspects of this phone. It has definitely improved over the Honor 7X and we feel this is much better in terms of the portrait photography when compared to the Honor 7X and the Edge detection is also better than the 7X.
The low-light images, this is one area where we feel the 9 Lite did not do a really great job although its kind of satisfactory experience. You would see the noise creeping in extremely low light photos with adequate lighting, artificial lighting conditions it feels a bit better but you will see the noise do creepy and the sharpness is not very impressive. But overall, we feel for the price segment it’s kind of decent performer.
When it comes to the selfie camera, this is one area where there is a drastic improvement when compared to the previous Honor devices. This device comes with dual camera that’s 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel camera and Honor claims that this has an upgraded Beauty algorithm to customize beauty by the gender, that means females and males the beauty algorithm is different and as a result the image is taken with selfie camera looks pretty good and this is much better than the Honor 7X. Now, the selfie camera also comes with a bokeh mode and the bokeh is pretty much effective and does a pretty good job with edge detection.
The Honor 9 Lite comes with 1080p resolution video recording there is no 4K support and 1080p resolution at 30 fps is the maximum supported. We feel it’s quite an acceptable camera for video recording but there is no EIS or OIS included but having said that for this price segment it’s kind of decent performer in terms of video recording.
The Honor 9 Lite has been launched in India with two variants one with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage and a cheaper model with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Both variants are powered by HiSilicon Kirin 659 chipset and allow for storage expansion while microSD card. The day to day performance is quite pleasant and Honor 9 Lite is not a powerhouse, casual games like subway surfer run fairly well and intensive games like Asphalt 8, Mortal Combat does have a few dropped frames but they are overall quite smooth and much smoother than what we experienced on the Honor 7X which runs the same chipset.
Coming back to the usage, intensive use also slows down the phone a fair bit, Snapdragon 625 powered smartphones such as the Moto G5s Plus or the Xiaomi Mi A1 still has the edge when it comes to pure performance.
As for software goes in my opinion, the EMUI is not an impressive operating system but really folks it is a lot improved from before and gets a stable interface. The Honor 9 Lite is running on EMUI latest 8.0 version which contains lots of new features. The 9 Lite is also running on Android latest version which is Android 8.0 Oreo.
However, let’s talk about the Software features, the Honor 9 Lite has a special voice assistant which runs AI capabilities. As I mentioned earlier EMUI 8.0 main feature is the AI capabilities. EMUI 8.0 has been greatly improved in this smart voice assistant. The voice assistant can easily and quickly perform basic tasks and can also perform multiple voice interaction to accurately and intelligently execute user instructions.
Honor is doing a lot of hard work to provide AI capabilities and even aa budget phone also. It has also special features if you long press any article text or anything, it will enter you to the smart screen recognition through which you can copy or share that article.
The Honor 9 Lite has a 3000 milliamp-hours battery on-board which Honor claims is good for 30 hours of talk time or 43 days of standby time while the battery capacity has been reduced compared to the Honor 7X. The actual battery life is pretty solid it’s not great with light workload the 9 Lite can easily last for more than a day on a single charge.
The Honor 9 Lite is not the most powerful smartphone out there nor does it have the best cameras. Also, EMUI 8.0 while a massive improvement is still not as easy to use as to Stock Android interface but at the starting price of rupees 11,000 or $180. The Honor 9 Lite makes for quite a compelling buy, it has a fresh and modern design, great build quality, snappy and fluid software, one of the best displays in this segment and solid battery life. The fact that it is a compact and pocketable compared to big and bulky thin bezels smartphone works like a cherry on top.
