Huawei Honor 10
Hello, Folks! Today I’m going to take a look at the Huawei Honor 10 review. So, Honor 10 is the latest flagship device announced by the company in India, and this is a sub 35K price device with really superior specifications, hardware, and this also comes with an AI camera, and this is a Camera centric smartphone with great design and build quality as well. So how good is the device in this price segment, let’s find out in this detailed review.
Main Specs: –
It comes with the 5.8-inch Full HD Plus resolution 19:9 aspect ratio display, it is powered by the Kirin 970 Octa-Core chipset, 6 gigs of RAM, 128 gigabytes of storage, EMUI 8.1 Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, 3400 milliamp-hours capacity battery, it has a 24-megapixel selfie camera and a rear 16 + 24-megapixel dual camera setup so, that is the specifications.
Design & Build: –
The Honor 10 is one of the great looking smartphones out there with the stunning build quality. The Honor 10 is very similar to the Huawei P20, the thing you’re going to notice of course is that Aurora Glass which is all over the back and that gives it a shiny, the eye-catching look. This is made by stacking 15 different layers of glass on top of each other which then bounce light back in different ways depending on the angle.
This phone is one of the best-looking smartphones out there regarding the build quality and design. The back panel is made of glass, so it attracts a lot of fingerprints, but overall it feels a tremendous and premium looking smartphone.
On the back panel, you have a Dual camera setup (16-MP + 24-MP), the AI camera logo, LED flash and the Honor branding. On the right side, you have the power button and volume rocker. On the left side, you have the SIM tray. On the top, you have the IR blaster and the secondary microphone. And on the bottom, you have the USB type-C port, the 3.5mm headphone jack, and the speaker unit. On the front, you have the 5.8-inch FUll HD Plus resolution display, the notch which includes that the camera as well as the sensors, and we have the fingerprint scanner located below the screen. So, that’s the design and build quality.
The Phone comes with a speaker mounted on the bottom panel, and the speaker does a quite good job. It’s quite loud, and the overall performance is pretty good.
The Honor 10 has an IPS LCD. It’s 5.8-inch and 1080 x 2280 pixels. The screen looks nice. It’s colourful especially if you leave it in the vivid default mode. The biggest downfall for me is that it’s not covered in Gorilla Glass this covered instead in some protective glass and to me, it just feels a bit more, and in fact, that’s one of my complaints with the device here. It’s made of glass, but it’s a bit Hollow, and it doesn’t quite have that premium heft that you’ll get from more expensive devices which is fair enough for the price.
It’s 19:9 aspect ratio and we have the notch here so you can see that the notch includes 24-Megapixels camera, earpiece and the sensors included. The display quality feels perfect, the colours are vibrant, rich and the viewing angles are also great. The overall the touch response feels very smooth on this device, so it is one of the excellent display in this price segment.
Biometrics & Security: –
Now the Honor 10 comes with a fingerprint scanner which is located at the bottom panel of the display. There’s an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, so it’s something a different. This is supposed to be faster, and it supposed to work even when your fingers are wet. Personally, I found this a bit a slower than your regular fingerprint scanner.
This device also comes with Face ID or Face Unlock which is entirely accurate and fast.
This phone is powered by the Kirin 970 Octa-Core chipset which is the flagship processor from Huawei, and the benchmarks score are high. It’s a powerful processor and nice job regarding the performance as well.
We have done a detailed gaming performance of this device, and it was the superior gaming from the Honor 10. So, overall if you are a person who loves gaming, this won’t disappoint and a great experience. Now, in day-to-day performance also the Kirin 970 extremely responsive with 6 gigabytes of RAM and 128 gigabytes of storage, no lacks whatsoever, and the opening of apps and memory management was superior on the Honor 10.
When it comes to the Kirin 970 is that NPU (Neural Processing Unit) this allows it to perform onboard Artificial Intelligence and Machine is learning so it can be things like recognising things in the scene, smarter memory management based on the way used device even organise your photos.
We have the rear dual camera setup, we have their primary 16-megapixel camera with f/1.8 aperture and a secondary 24-megapixel camera which is a monochrome sensor for black & white images, and there is LED flash included. On the front panel, we have a 24-megapixel selfie shooter.
We found that this device comes with AI camera and when we turn on the AI mode at times the mode is a bit aggressive regarding colour reproduction and the image feels a bit saturated. But if you think that it’s saturated, you can turn off the AI mode wherein the colours look more natural.
But overall the camera quality of this device was outstanding and one of the good cameras smartphone in this price segment. With great details, excellent colour reproduction when you turn off the AI mode most of the time and also the Portrait mode is improved over the Honor View 10.
The selfie experience was also excellent, and there is portrait mode for the selfies as well. Now, the disappointing aspect was as of now the rear camera does not have the image stabilisation, there’s EIS support coming from the update.
The Honor 10 comes with EMUI 8.1 out of the box, so that’s the UI which runs on all the Honor and the Huawei smartphones. So, here we have EMUI 8.1 + Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. So, EMUI offers tons of additional features, modes and we get 100 UI Motion-controlled, Voice Controlled, then there is a dual app support for themes and a whole lot of features are included so that’s one of the really customized UI and it’s a really efficient UI in terms of the performance as well no lags whatsoever in the UI aspect and extremely stable as well.
So, software wise we don’t have much to complain if you are looking for a customised UI you won’t be disappointed but if you are a person who loves Stock Android, then EMUI might not be the best option.
The call quality of the Honor 10 was pretty good, and this device supports Dual SIM cards, and there is the dual of 4G LTE and VoLTE support on this device. You can use two Jio SIM cards at the same time, so that’s the SIM card options.
The Honor 10 ships with a 3400 milliamp-hours battery and it can last you a day with moderate or heavy usage. It is not the best performance out there, but you can easily continue for a day even if you are a heavy user. This device also supports fast charging, and it was not as fast as we would have expected on similar to the Honor View 10 regarding the charging speeds.
Overall, the Honor 10 has the excellent design and build exceptional quality looks, the display also looks pretty good, the Software is excellent, the performance from the Kirin 970 is outstanding, and the cameras are excellent. Now, the downsides of this device are that the battery performance was not high it’s average or above average, and the AI mode of the camera was a bit aggressive at times are leading to oversaturated images.
But other than that the Honor 10 now is an excellent flagship device and if you are looking for stunning looks and a compact form factor with great looks without a doubt the Honor 10 is a great device to buy.
