Xiaomi Mi A1 vs Lenovo K8 Note
Hello, Friends! Welcome back, today I’m going to do a comparison of two mid-range smartphones below 15,000 rupees, the Xiaomi Mi A1 vs Lenovo K8 Note. Xioami Mi A1 comes with Android One platform while the Lenovo K8 Note has also Stock Android and the latest version of Android. So, in terms of pricing, the Mi A1 is priced at 14,999 rupees or $275 while the Lenovo K8 Note comes in two variants 12,999 rupees or $230 which have 3GB of RAM and also 13,999 rupees or $250 variants which have 4GB of RAM. So, in this review, I’ll cover all the aspects of these phones. I have the 4GB of RAM version of both the devices along with 64GB storage. So, let’s get started-
Design wise, you would see that both these phones are made of metal, all-metal unibody construction. Both are good looking smartphones out there but I would say the Xiaomi Mi A1 now feel slightly more premium I term of the design aspects. The build quality looks pretty similar on both the devices, you would also see that the Lenovo K8 Note slightly thicker and also heavier than the Xiaomi Mi A1.
Now, in terms of the Hardware aspects, you’ll see that both these phones have power and volume buttons on the right side. The bottom panel houses the charging port, you have Type-C port on the Xiaomi Mi A1 while micro USB charging port on the Lenovo K8 Note. You have speaker grille and 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom for the Xiaomi Mi A1. While on the other hand, Lenovo K8 note has a 3.5mm headphone jack at the top. You also have the IR blaster on the Xiaomi Mi A1 at the top. On the left side, you have the SIM Card tray with dual SIM cards on both the devices. You have dedicated micro SD slot on the Lenovo K8 Note and also have the dedicated music button, on the left side. Both the phones come with capacitive touch buttons but they’re not backlit on the K8 Note while it’s backlit on the Mi A1.
Fingerprint Scanner: –
Both phones have rear mounted fingerprint scanner and you would see that the Lenovo K8 Note is much faster than the Xiaomi Mi A1. Lenovo K8 Note is very responsive in terms of fingerprint scanner experience.
Both smartphones come with 5.5-inches full HD display and it’s 1 1080p resolution. Both phones have the 2.5D glass and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. The display quality is really good on both the devices, great colour reproduction, good sharpness level and also great viewing angles along with excellent touch response. So, in terms of the screen panel aspects, I would say both these phones are almost neck to neck, no clear winner in this category.
Both Phones have come with Dual Cameras but here is a difference in terms of setup of Dual cameras. The Xiaomi Mi A1 comes with 12-megapixel Dual Camera, one is the normal wide-angle camera and the other one is a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with 2X optical zoom. It also has a Dual LED flash.
Another, on the other hand, you have the Lenovo K8 Note with 13-megapixel and 5-megapixel camera combination with Dual LED flash. The primary 13-megapixel camera takes good images and as a secondary 5-megapixel camera is for the depth sensing.
Now, on the front panel, you have a 5-megapixel front-facing camera on the Xiaomi Mi A1 while is a 13-megapixel front-facing camera on the K8 Note.
The camera interfaces both quite nice on both the devices and you would say the Xiaomi Mi A1 has a better interface overall with additional options included. While the K8 Note is not bad in terms of the Camera interface quite decent option all drawn.
Now, talking about the images quality of both phones, the Mi A1 produces slightly better colour quality. Both phones are good in sharpness levels and overall clarity looks great. But I would say the Xiaomi Mi A1 slightly has better overall colour quality and looks slightly better than the Lenovo K8 Note.
Even in the close-up photos, I would say both phones exhibit good sharpness levels and the colours slightly the richer and vibrant on the Mi A1 when compared to the K8 Note. So, it’s your personal choice whether you like vibrant and rich colours then go for Xiaomi Mi A1, otherwise, the Lenovo k8 note is also a good device.
The low-light performance, this is one area where the Lenovo K8 Note has an edge in terms of noise levels. The noise levels are slightly lower than what are the Xiaomi Mi A1 and produce, so it would see that low-light experience is a slightly better on the K8 Note in terms of noise levels. But you would see that the Xioami Mi A1 has brighter pictures and more details. So, it’s a mix of performance in terms of these two phones. Both have their own advantages and also disadvantage, so you need to prioritize which is better for you based on that you need to pick the phone.
Now, the video recording, the Xiaomi Mi A1 has an advantage because it has the 4K recording as well as slow-motion recording. While on the other hand, the Lenovo K8 Note does not have, the slow-motion recording will be coming in future updates.
The front-facing camera, this is one area where the Lenovo K8 Note has a clear edge the 13-megapixel camera produces some great at selfies and also the low-light performance of the selfies are better because of the front-facing flash.
Overall, daylight conditions we would say the Xiaomi Mi A1 is better and also in video recording but in terms of Selfie experience, the Lenovo K8 Note is a better choice.
Performance & Memory: –
The Xiaomi Mi A1 comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 which is one of the reliable chip in this price range. It is coupled with 4 gigabytes of RAM and 64 gigabytes of storage. While on the other hand, the Lenovo K8 Note is powered by Helio Deca-Core X23 chip which is one of the really powerful chips in this price range. And it also comes with 4 gigabytes of RAM and 64 gigabytes of storage option.
So, in terms of the performance, you would say the Helio X-23 powered Lenovo K8 Note was faster. I did an application opening test to see which is faster you would see that the Lenovo K8 Note is faster than Mi A1, in terms of the speed test. The Xiaomi Mi A1 also is a really good device in terms of the performance but it is definitely not up to the mark of the Lenovo K8 Note in terms of the speed test.
Here is an AnTuTu benchmark score of these two phones, the Mi A1 does score 61983 and the K8 Note does score 92670. So, you could clearly see that how powerful the Helio X23 Deca-Core Chipset when compared to the Snapdragon 625.
Now, both phones come with Dual SIM Card for LTE and Voltage support and you have a dedicated SD card on the Lenovo K8 note while it’s Hybrid SIM card on the Mi A1.
The gaming performance of these two phones was really good. Both phones had great gaming abilities as well and neither of them had any heating issues.
Here, you would see that both these phones run on Stock UI, you can see Android 7.1.1 on the Lenovo K8 Note while it 7.1.2 on the Xiaomi Mi A1. Also, the Xiaomi Mi A1 is powered by the Google One program that means Google will be providing updates for this phone. So, you get the Android 8.0 Oreo update and also the next version of Android is promising. But on the other hand, on the Lenovo K8 Note the updates are provided by Lenovo and Oreo is a promise for the K8 Note as well.
So, both phones come with Stock Android UI and that’s one of the good aspects of both these phones.
You have a 3080 milliamp-hours battery on the Mi A1 while a 4000 milliamp-hours battery on the K8 Note even though it has a bigger battery, the battery performance is less because the Helio X23 is a very powerful chipset so it’s not very optimized. The screen on time for the Mi A1 was around 6 hours and the K8 Note was slightly above 7 hours.
So, almost 1-hour difference in terms of SOT between these two phones when I have tested. The Lenovo K8 Note has this slight edge even though it has a bigger capacity battery, there’s no real advantage for the K8 Note in terms of battery performance because of Snapdragon 625 is really power efficient chipset.
It’s a really tough job to deciding one phone out of these two phones because both have their own pros and cons. So, the Xiaomi Mi A1 comes with really good design, build quality looks great and the display is nice then the software is really excellent, the performance is good, the battery life is also pretty good and it has excellent dual cameras.
On the other hand, the Lenovo K8 Note has good design and build quality as well as the software is also good. It has promise update and it’s also a multimedia phone with Dolby Atmos Theatre Mac support, also the dedicated music button and the resources flash resistant coating along with turbo charging, the performance is brilliant, and the battery performance also good.
So, both phones are neck to neck in terms of the performance and almost all aspects so I would suggest you pick the phone based on what is your priority.
