Hello, Guys! Today I’m going to take a look at BlackBerry Motion Review. A few months ago BlackBerry was back with another Blackberry Android Phone, the Blackberry KeyOne. And this phone was very different because it’s running Android then it had a full keyboard and that’s not something that we see every day.
Now, at the same time, most people aren’t exactly used to the keyboard. So, maybe the phone wasn’t for everyone but not blackberry is back with yet another device and this one is called the BlackBerry Motion. This one we don’t get the keyboard anymore but we get a 5.5-inch screen that has a 1080p resolution. So, now the phone looks more like what we are used to seeing on the market these days. So, let’s start-
Design & Build: –
This BlackBerry Motion phone itself doesn’t look that spectacular in my opinion. I mean on the front, we have a big chin, big forehead and rather large bezels all around the display. So, this blackberry android phone is somewhat bigger than other phones that have a 5.5-inch screen. The phone’s frame, it’s made out of metal and on the right-hand side, we have the convenience key, power button and the volume rocker.
Now, that convenience key it’s not exactly convenient because of where it’s placed it’s very easy to press it. So, every time I pick up the phone I kind of press that up convenience key. So, I wish the power button would have been placed instead of the convenience key. The convenience key can be used to open certain apps to change to a different profile or a shortcut. So, you just press that key and whatever app or whatever you have selected pops up.
On the other side of the Blackberry Motion, we have the SIM card slot and this phone can take a SIM card and an SD card that SD card can also be used for internal storage. The bottom of the device, we have a 3.5mm headphone jack, microphone, a USB Type-C port and speaker grille. The speaker doesn’t sound amazing I mean it gets loud but it’s just one tiny speaker.
The Blackberry Motion is also IP67 certified and that means that you could technically take it in the shower.
Moving to the back of the phone, it’s made out of some type of rubberized plastic that’s very soft to touch but in the same, it’s not slippery. So, that’s great because a lot of phones these days are very slippery.
We also have a 12-megapixel camera with f/2.0 and I believe that this is the same camera that you used to have for the original Google Pixel. On the front of the device and starting the way at the top, we have 8-megapixel selfie shooter with f/2.2 aperture.
This blackberry android phone has a 5.5-inch IPS LCD screen panel. The colours look great and the viewing angles also look great but I wish of the screen would get a bit brighter because if you go outside it’s gonna be a little bit difficult to see it in direct sunlight. The sensitivity is also great so no issues whenever you are typing. And just below the screen, we have the back button, a home button that’s a fingerprint scanner and we have the multitasking button. Unfortunately, we not gonna be able to move those buttons around so you can exactly have the back button on the other side.
Fingerprint Scanner: –
Now, the fingerprint scanner it’s very accurate and it’s also very fast. You just have to touch it once the formula unlocks the screen. The fingerprint scanner also is used for a couple of other things and one of them I haven’t actually seen on any smartphone before. So, the first use for the fingerprint scanner would be to pull down the notification tab but we’ve seen that for the Google Pixel for example.
The second thing, you can take pictures through the fingerprint scanner. So, if you have the camera app. Open then you take the picture by touching the fingerprint scanner that particular picture will be locked in a secure folder and nobody else can access that folder that folder you actually need your fingerprint.
The 12-megapixel camera on the back of this device so first of all, the phone can record in 4K however, the image stabilization doesn’t work for 4K recordings. You can only use an image stabilization for 1080p recordings.
The camera app is also very quick and very fast at focusing and there is also manual mode available in there for those of you that don’t like on taking pictures in auto mode. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been sunny over the past 4 days that I’ve using the phone. So, I couldn’t really take any pictures and put a lot of sun and the blue skies.
All the pictures that I took, they do look quite good in my opinion and they’re very similar the pictures that we’ve seen from the BlackBerry KeyONE.
The low-light pictures do look quite good maybe they are not as crispy as we’ve seen them from on other flagship devices.
We have an 8-megapixel front-facing camera and we also have an LED notification light that can change colours. Not the quality from that 8-megapixel front-facing camera it’s great as long as you have plenty of light as soon as you don’t have enough light the pictures become a bit grainy and bloody that’s quite normal for on any smartphone these days.
But for a phone that costs around $450, I think the camera performs very well.
Performance & Memory: –
The Blackberry Motion is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 and even though that CPU it’s very power efficient, it’s not the fastest CPU out there so you can’t exactly compare the performance from the Blackberry Motion to something like a Samsung Galaxy S8, the LG V30 or anything like that. The main difference that you’re going to notice in performance when comparing these two a much more expensive device would be the loading time for apps do not imagine it’s gonna take you like a minute to load an app. It’s probably gonna take you like half a second more run than on something like a Samsung Galaxy S8 or LG v30. So, just a bit longer loading times but after the apps load, they do work very well.
I tried a whole bunch of apps on the BlackBerry Motion just because I wanted to see how well the software optimized. So, for example, if you’re gonna use Chrome on after up the page loads of you can zoom in, zoom out, scroll up, scroll down without any issues. And just as good as you do on a much more expensive device I’ve also the Instagram, Twitter, I tried basically all the apps that I use every single day. So, realistically no issues with any app on that you’re gonna play or try on this phone.
You can even play games GTA San Andreas and that’s a somewhat heavy game and that it does perform very well on the BlackBerry Motion. So, realistically this phone is not just for work you can actually use this as a regular phone just like any other Android device available on the market.
The new Blackberry Android Phone is running Android 7.1 Nougat but the launcher is very close to Stock on Android but in the same time we have some blackberry specific apps like the Blackberry Hub and the Dtek security. Basically, the Dtek security will not scan your device and tell you if your phone is secure or not.
This BlackBerry Android phone has a 4000 milliamp-hours battery. I was able to go for a day and a half on single time charge and out of that 13.5 hours of screen time which is just insane. This is probably the best battery life that I’ve seen any mobile device up until now.
So, if you’re looking for a phone that you don’t have to charge every single day well, this is probably it and on top of that, we even have fast charging. So, you can charge the entire phone in about an hour and 45 minutes.
Moving on the GPS unit on this phone, it works great. It only takes about half a second to find your location and once your location is found it doesn’t seem to lose it. So, you can use any navigation app without any issues as for sensor. So, you’re gonna find all the sensors that you’d find in a much more expensive flagship device including the Gyroscope.
The phone can connect to 4G networks, of course, we have Bluetooth connectivity, dual-band, WiFi and we have even NFC. That means you can use Android Pay with this device without any issues.
Finally, I don’t really have any bad things to say about the BlackBerry Motion. I mean, the phone could have been a bit smaller because it is on kind of large, the performance could have been better but in the same time, the price would probably be higher if that would be the case. Aside from that, we get the phone that has IP67 we get an awesome 4000 mAh battery it can go on forever well not forever at least two or three days. We get great cameras as well and overall this is a very good phone.
